New Single

The Martyrs is a powerful ballad which tells the story of the Cornish Rebellion of 1497. This was a significant popular uprising against King Henry VII of England. The rebels, led by Michael Joseph An Gof (a blacksmith from St Keverne) and Thomas Flamank (a lawyer from Bodmin), were protesting the king's heavy taxes imposed to fund a war against Scotland.

The rebellion culminated in the Battle of Blackheath just outside London, where the Cornish forces were decisively defeated by the King's army. An Gof and Flamank were subsequently executed (hanged, drawn, and quartered).

The song is a powerful ballad that commemorates this important event in Cornish & British history often overlooked and not given the importance it deserves. It features vocals by Carol Rockey and Jack Godwin. It was written by Kent Godwin & Carol Rockey.

We recommend these playlists and would be very grateful if you would give it a listen.

New project 'The Martyrs of St Keverne' We are proud to announce the release, which will be on JUNE 27th, 'An Gof' day This song relates the story of the Cornish rebellion of 1497, predicated by Henry VII punative taxes and suspension of the rule and independence of the stannaries, breaking King Edwards Ist 's pledge to the mining industry. It was inspired by visiting the statue of Thomas Flamank and Michael Joseph An Gof in the town of St Keverne and the abandoned coastal mine shafts which stand like ancient ruined temples, remnants of a long lost religion.
